Lauren Walsh participating in Youth Olympics

All of us here in Piper’s Hill College are extremely proud of 6th year student and golfer, Lauren Walsh, who is representing Ireland at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina this month. We have been following her journey closely, frequently checking Instagram, Twitter and the Olympics Channel for updates and check-ins from the Irish team and Lauren’s competitions.

Lauren has achieved great success in the sport over the past number of years. She first represented Ireland at the Home Internationals in 2016 where Ireland came from behind to win against Scotland 5-4 at Conwy Golf Club, North Wales. Lauren was instrumental in their success, securing the first Irish victory in the competition. Since then, Lauren has won East Leinster and Connacht Championships in 2017, setting a course record in the latter on her way to victory. She has travelled extensively for team events in Finland, Austria, England and Ireland and most recently, competed in the 2018 World Junior Girls Championship in Canada.

Lauren’s selection for the youth Olympic Squad is a huge accomplishment and we take great pride in seeing one of our students wearing the green jersey and representing her country in such a prestigious competition. Lauren was joint 11th after Round 1 and has moved into the top 10, in joint 9th place after Round 2. At the time of writing, she is waiting to play Round 3. Whatever the outcome of this competition, Lauren has been an exemplary sportsperson and representative for Piper’s Hill College, demonstrating perseverance, dedication and focus. With a golf scholarship to Wake Forest University in North Carolina secured for next year, we are sure that this is just the beginning of an exciting and successful career.
