Earth Day at Piper’s Hill College
To celebrate Earth Day April 22 students took part in a Pedal Power Workshop. This exciting initiative was the brain child of the Science Department. The workshop focused on raising awareness among students on the subject of energy consumption, its impact on our planet, how to produce green energy and how to cut back on fossil fuel dependency. Electricity was generated on the day by pedal power. This saw a number of students putting their considerable energy into peddling enough kilowatts to power a power point presentation and run a blender to create healthy juices to quench the thirst of the participants. First year, second year and transition year students were given a very interesting talk by an environmental scientist which focused on matters of environmental conservation. The programme was funded by Kildare County Council. It was a fantastic initiative. Many thanks to the participating cyclists and the staff and students who donated their bicycles for use on the day.
