Transition Year class of 2016 – 2017 graduated on May 19th. The college foyer area was packed with proud students, parents and staff members. Some one hundred and forty nine students in all graduated demonstrating the continuing popularity of the class here in Piper’s Hill College. During the course of the afternoon those present were treated to an account of the wide ranging activities, experiences and achievements had by the group from a Transition Year Exposition in Punchestown at the start of the term to a skiing trip to Italy to a hike in the Wicklow mountains.
The afternoon kicked off with a welcome address by Molly Larkin followed by in depth accounts of the various experiences and highlights of the year by Alanah Wade, Nicole Horsley, Kisham Sharma and Amber Amelia Kelly. Reece Sheridan delivered a very compelling account of the student’s perspective of the Transition Year learning model. This was followed by solo performances of song, poetry and recitals from members of various class groups. Numerous awards were made to students including Certificates of Participation, Academic Awards, Gaisce Awards, Outstanding Portfolio Awards. Individual awards were made to Sarah O Crowley who received Student of the Year Award and Reece Sheridan who received Spirit of Transition Award. Mr O Connor concluded proceedings by speaking about the value of the Transition Year learning experience for all those who have participated. The college wishes to express their thanks to all the staff members, school choir and students who were involved in producing such a wonderful afternoon.
