Piper’s Hill hosted the u16 girls basketball playoffs on Saturday January 13th, hosting teams from Carrick on Shannon and Castlebar. Piper’s Hill played Carrick on Shannon first in a close contest. Piper’s were trailing by 10 points at one stage in the third quarter but a strong finish, with the help of some local support, resulted in a 4 point victory for Piper’s Hill, 55-51. We played St Joseph’s Castlebar in our second game and a strong start provided a lead that Piper’s maintained throughout the match, finishing with a result of Piper’s Hill 59 Castlebar 38. The u16 girls now qualify for the All Ireland semi finals at the end of the January. Kaitlyn Miley, Emma Carroll, Cara Kennedy, Laura Cahill and Kaffy Olatunji played key roles for Piper’s Hill.
The u16 boys competed in their playoffs on Sunday January 14th in Colaiste Cois Life, Lucan. We first played Coláiste Chiaráin, Leixlip in a evenly contested match and were very unlucky to lose on a score line 46-41. We then played St. Eunan’s Letterkenny in a very competitive match. Again Piper’s Hill were unfortunate not to win, with only 2 points separating the teams at the end, 48-46. Piper’s played Intermediate School Killorglin in their final game. Putting their previous defeats behind them, Piper’s Hill showed great character to win on a score line 49-35. Following these games Piper’s Hill unfortunately do not qualify for the All Ireland semi-finals. Daniel Kane and Luke Owens put in great performances for Piper’s Hill.
